3rd Week Summary

[Summary}

HyperText

We learned two Key points last week.
One is that When technologies connect or separate people, they become media.
The others is that Technologies embody social, political, cultural, economic and philosophical
ideas and relationship.

This week, We also learned two Key points which is New.
First, When a medium is new, it is often used to simulate old media.
Second, New media do not replace old media, they displace them.
We will understand them through example of Engelbart.

Now, We are going to think about the relationship of dadaism and Hypertext at First.

We learned How Dadaist wirte a poem.
For example,
Each of them writes a sentence and They gather sentences written by each of them.
Then they arrange gathered random, and Say "It is a poem!"

Other Example, it is called auto-wirte, They write on the paper with not thinking.
they also say "It is a great poem"

Third Example, it is called Cut-ups.
They gathered everything; article, music, picture, movie contents
and they use them(article,music...) to make Works.

There are no ideas!

Why did I say about dadaism?
Because The concept of Hypertext has similarity with Dadaism.
For example, Suppose that you found the hypertext declared COMPUTER and
clicked the hypertext. Do you Know What webpage will show up on the monitor?
is it witten about What is the COMPUTER ?
or is it the on-line shoping mall of COMPUTER ?
you can't know about that!
You just follow the link.
you can't know What linked!

so There are similarity with Dadaism!

From now on, I am going to discuss Engelbart's idea.
We all read the Text 'AUGMENTING HUMAN INTELLECT'

He wanted to augment man's intellect.
because this World is very complex!
"Man's population and gross product are increasing at a considerable rate,
byt the complexity of his problems grows still faster, and the urgency with
which solutions must be found becomes steadily greater..."

He wanted Better & faster comprehension , and Better & faster & more solutions to problems.
So he suggested idea 'augmenting human intellect'

He suggested that H-LAM/T system; Human using Language, Artifacts., Methodology, in which he is Trained.
Objective of this idea is that Cooperation of Human and Computer.
The man touch the keyboard, and move the mouse. - HUMAN PROCESS
The computer accept man's intention and operate and output in monitor.
This is the cooperation and communication of human and Computer.

So he invented Mouse, Graphic interface, client/server Networking System, E-mailing System.
And made a WORKSTATION.

He demonstrated His New system in front of a number of audience.
and The World is Suprised for his amaizing invention.
Still, His idea have used by Personal Computer.

Do you remember the New two keypoint ?
When the New media Show up,
the old media is abandoned.
Engelbart's New idea displace old media.
Every people abandoned old sytem, and used the New system made by Engelbart

Hypertext is a New media.
One way that digital media has been understood is as new forms of writing, reading, thinking.
the old media is abandoned, and the New media displace them!
also Hypertext displace oldmedia.
it is conclusion for this week.

The concept of this week is very difficult to understand and find what is the core.
But I did my best.

The idea of engelbart was very amazing thing.
When He demonstrate Workstation in front of people,
The world is suprised. Because His idea is advanced technology!

Engelbart thought about the AUGMENTING HUMAN INTELLECT,
and endeavor to realize that.

Becasue of such as efforts, the relationship of human and computer have advanced,
Now We can communicate computer very easy.
Everyone can use the computer. even kid!

The amazing technology that we are using have been invented by Creative people, Engelbart,
Vannevar bush,etc. and it will be continued that Creative Ideas make a New World!
